? tonight there is word of a possible motive in the newtown massacre. a man who says he knew the shooter's family tells fox news.com that adam lanza was upset because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility. we can't confirm that, but a senior law enforcement official does back it up. saying investigators are looking at whether lanza was angry over plans for his future mental health treatment. police say lanza shot and killed his mother friday morning before driving to that elementary school. there they say he murdered 20 children and six adults and then killed himself. we have team fox coverage. molly line on how kids are going back to school. first to rick leventhal with the latest on the investigation. police searched lanza's home for clues. one thing they reportedly did not find is of great interest. >> right. according to the hartford current, they found no prescription drugs in the home and no record that adam lanza was being treated for as bergers, autism or any mental illness. but investigators are said to be serving search warrants to obtain medical recor

died. and in the case of the school in newtown, we know that that's what happened again, even in a greater magnitude. i think we're at a point now where people said enough. every grandparent, like myself, every parent who has a young child, is looking at the situation and saying, we cannot let this happen again. so i believe that the american people are going to take a different look at what happened last friday. and they're going to demand, as they should, that those of us who have been sent to congress, to make action and to do what's right by our country, that we're going to actually do something. and we must do something. and that's what my commitment is, as i think are many more members of congress' commitments. including people who have traditionally supported -- the national rifle association has supported by it. to make it clear, i'm a second amendment supporter. i believe that's a good amendment for our country. but we have to move beyond that. these weapons have no place in the school. as you your previously guest suggested. we have to deal with this problem on two l

will announce a task force led by vice president biden to develop a policy response to the newtown, connecticut shooting. the president is not expected to make any policy decisions but lay out a path forward on a process to come up with some policy proposals. on sunday though he did promise in newtown that he would use whatever power this office holds to prevent future tragedies. yesterday white house spokesman jay carney said that could include reexamining some gun laws. carney said the president supports senator dianne feinstein's attempt to revive the assault weapons ban as well as a ban on high-capacity magazines. he also supports closing the so-called gun show loophole. any effort though at new restrictions on guns will kick off a new fight in washington. the nra spent $18.6 million supporting and opposing candidates during the 2012 cycle. according to the sun life found case, 51% of the numbers of the new congress have received funding from the national rifle association's political action committee at some point in their political careers. the nra is known for staying silent, running out
